I ran things over and over in my head and have made a regretful discovery: our love did fade. I have arrived at this realization far too late. Words have been said. Decisions have been made. Our paths have departed. I was too optimistic, too hopeful. You were my first relationship and my heart was too naive, too inexperienced.
I am coming to concrete realizations. I don’t blame you for how things went or the feelings that were invoked. I don’t blame myself either. There is no blame to be burdened on either of our shoulders. We both had good intentions and we both tried in earnest. But in the end, the love just faded.
Sometimes two people, despite the best of efforts, are not meant to be.
This is the disclaimer in fine print that my naive heart failed to read. This is the caveat that love stories on film fail to warn me about. This is the lesson to be learned for my aching heart.
