TIME TO GO
She’d had enough. The late nights he spent out while she lay in an empty bed. The cruel words. The incessant drinking. It had drained her of all her love, and she couldn’t remember why she was here.
She had loved him once, hadn’t she? She knew she had. He was charming, roguish in all the right ways, intelligent, and treated her with compassion. He was a man, and she adored him for it. That seemed so long ago now. She couldn’t feel the love anymore, couldn’t remember it. His hurtful remarks, his horrible antics, his constant neglect, it had destroyed everything. The shared appreciation for music was gone. The art was gone. The poetry, the thoughtful letters, the adoration of all things marvelous and enchanting, all of it was gone.
What is it that makes people change so terribly? What is it that makes a man, once so brilliant, so caring and wonderful, become a monster? What strips him of his passions and leaves him constantly full of anxiety, fear, anger, a short temper, and constantly drinking?
She didn’t know, but she knew it wasn’t her fault. She tried to save him, tried to be sweet for so long, and he never acknowledged it. At least, not to her face. He barely communicated unless it was a hurtful tirade. She had done all she could, and she couldn’t continue to live this life, this way, with this man.
It was time to go.
