Winter pinched my pink skin on the night that we first fell in love. You breathed my name out into the fragrant air and my giggles adorned the breeze like silver bells; tinkling and floating to the floor with a soft thud once the joke was over. I’ve never encountered a creature like you before. You’re textures and touches and tastes that my senses can’t distinguish; so vivid, almost unworldly. I wonder if anybody has ever called you “beautiful.” Maybe, but I doubt they savoured your splendour in the same way that I have. Our colours have bled and blended to create something unrecognisable. Time has that effect, I suppose, but I still find myself aching for familiarity. At what point will loneliness morph into something that exists as remotely bearable? I miss the tickle of your chest hair and the way your eyes would always sing the words that your tongue couldn’t speak. Please come back, I’m begging.
