We were sitting on the rocks at the mountain peak, moonlight sifting golden shapes over the water, wind cradling laughter for that little bit longer. It was late. Darkness dragged the silhouettes below, their movements gradual like they were dancing and maybe they were. We were nowhere. We were happy. Not the overpowering kind of happy or the kind the disappears in an instant either. No, we were happy, we were happy.

Our fire flashed gold and it was dancing too. Soft words floated around every now and then, passive talk of washing dishes in the waterfall, of finding that tyre swing in the forest, of how ridiculously proud we were that our fire had kept the insects away. All that waned. Even the loudest voices silenced by everything, by nothing. The faded fire and the moonlight met halfway. Dawn was threatening to break, slivers of amber weaving between firs and faces, tired and awed and contented. We were nowhere, we were happy.
