You look really good, just as I explicitly remember from the last time I saw you. Your hair and your scruff and that light in your eyes is still the same. I bet your hands still feel the same and I bet you still sound and taste the same, too. You look exactly like before but nothing is actually like before, is it now? Do you still smell of cigarette smoke? I hated when you would pull me into your chest because all I’d inhale was that musky smell of your shirt. Now I wish I could just breathe you in again. Do your brown curls still get matted down from that favorite old hat of yours? Is your sister enjoying her first year at school? Did you keep my number in your phone? Do you still get flustered like I do when you hear that song? Does your family still ask about me? How do you feel when every January 12th comes around? There’s so much I want to know, so much I want to ask but I can’t and you can’t so we both can’t. I put you and everything that resonated into a sealed box long ago but I was tempted, I was lonely, I was curious. I forgot that curiosity killed the cat.
